Extended Device Discovery Install Issue - LD9 SP3

This is for LANDesk 9 SP3.

I am attempting to install an agent with XDD enabled.

The target machine is running Windows 7 - 64bit.

The agent successfully installs but acts as if XDD wasn't selected to be installed. None of the XDD files copy to the target PC and there is nothing in the logs saying there was an error.

I have tried this on multiple machines using multiple agents with XDD enabled. I have tried full agent installs as well as agent setting updates. No matter the method used, I get the same result.

Any ideas on how to get XDD installed and operational?

softmon causing high I/O Reads slowing down computers

We have some programmers who claim that LANDesk is disk intensive and causing major slowdown with their computers.  CPU utilization is low, but the point to Softmon.exe Policy.client.invoker, and kavehost.exe, (LANDesk related stuff), as using more than 81 times the disk IO then Visual Studio.  Specifically they are sorting Task Manager by I/O Reads to come up with this information.  We are running LANDesk antivirus.  Software monitoring has been disabled.

Programmers from other departments say they are not having problems.  I'm a network admin, and task manager shows the same hig I/O reads on my computer.  I have not experienced and slow downs.  Can anyone shed some light on the other things softmon does besides software monitoring.  I know it is involved in several processes.  Also,  anything on what the I/O read information really means would be helpful.  Here is the email we received including the screen shots from the user's computer.

Thx - Mark

Attached are some screenshots of the amount of disk reads from Softmon and LanDesk from Uesr's computer.

User’s point is that LanDesk is disk intensive and not CPU intensive. The topprograms.png shows that LanDesk related stuff is the top 3 programs, using more than 81 times times the disk IO than Visual Studio.

How to change HP Bios Setting with agent v9.6

$

We are running v9.6 on our Core server.  We ran into an issue when i tried to push the v9.6 agent to our workstations.  It seems the v9.6 agent activates the AMT device (if enabled in the BIOS) and causes it to request an additional ip address from dhcp.  This happens on our machines that have static ip address and machines that use dhcp.  The result was that some of our dhcp subnets ran out of available ip address.

Therefore, I have the need to disable the AMT in the bios on my HP workstations.  I went to my agent settings and configured the AMT disable setting for two of our workstation types. I selected the machine type and disabled the AMT setting.  We do not have BIOS passwords enabled

I scheduled the task by choosing the "Change Settings" option.  Its the only way I found to schedule this change to the agent.

landesk agent settings hp bios 2.PNG

I pushed the changes to a machine.  The task says it was successful, but the AMT is still enabled.  Even after an inventory and reboot.

Anyone have any ideas?

How to obtain UninstallWinClient.exe?

Hopefully I picked the correct forum.

I did some consulting work for a company recently that provided a custom VPN client and software as single bundle.  Apparently this bundle included the LANDesk client software.  I no longer need to access their VPN from this computer and I'd like to remove the software entirely, as it isn't entirely benign (one LANDesk process, vulscan.exe, goes off on a tangent now and again eating 100% CPU).

However, I do not have, and never have had, access to a LANDesk server installation where I could obtain UninstallWinClient.exe.  Can I download it?  Or can someone attach it or send it to me?

BrokerConfig.exe Gateway Information

Hi All,

More of a question regarding the brokerconfig settings from the agent. We our core and LDGateway talking nicely to each other and in turn on demand and resident clients working away. Nice.

However I want the agent to automatically switch between Direct and Gateway mode depending on its location. I have done into the Brokerconfig.exe and located the Gateway information tab. Under here are three options:

  • Dynamically determine connection rroute
  • Connect directly to LDMS core
  • Connect using the management gateway

Currently it is set to Dynamically determine, the management gateway address is correct, there is nothing in the proxy settings (this is correct) and the certificate has been posted to the client.

However it still stays in Direct mode, even when it is off the network on our "dirty" line.

Any help would be appriciated

James

P.S. We are running 8.8SP2a core and clients

Common Base Agent Not Loaded

Having a problem with the common base agent not loading onto some of our servers(Server 2003 and Server 2008). Does anyone have any idea why the agent would not be able to load from the deployment. We tried doing it through Unmanaged Device Deployment and through loading the agent directly on the server.

See attached image for details.

Thanks in Advance,

Matt

IPCheck failed

Hi All,

The client agent installation was failed on IPCheck. The log said that IPCheck used the MAC address as the client host name. Then I came back to the console and looked into the task scheduler. I found it was true. So, I checked the discovery of devices. There were no host name with the client in the list after discovering again.

It does not make any sense to use MAC address instead of IP address as the host name. Any anyone help me to understand?

Thanks.

Agent Deployment error (0xC0000471)

When I'm deploying some agent, i'll the wscfg32.exe process will be terminated with statuscode 0xC0000471.

This also happens when i run it from ldlogon share without any installation options.

When it's run from scheduled task the return code is "successfull".

But there ain't get any files copied/installed !!

According to ntstatus.h in winsdk the errormsg  says :

STATUS_INVALID_CRUNTIME_PARAMETER #An invalid parameter was passed to a C runtime function.

This happens only at a view machines. Didn't find any shared issuses on that computers. (different software, OS: Win7 64 and XP32)

Since this sounds for me like an .net related problem. I tried to update all .net frameworks, removed all VisualC++ runtimes and installed that ones from ldlogon shrare.

Doesn't get any further. (also disabled virus scanner )

Does someone have same problem, hints or solutions ?

Thanks in advance!

System info : running LDMS 9.0 on windows server 2003 standard 32bit in vmware, with external oracle db.

Agent deployment failed with code 1081 LDMS 9.6

Hello, I have some problem deploying agent on windows 7 workstations.

The deployment task failed with code 1081.

I read a lot about it and already checked most of commons problems:

     Firewall client/core OFF

     File sharing/printing client/core ON

ping core from client IP and FDQN  from client OK

ping client with IP and FQDN from Core is OK

ipcheck from client to client is OK

domain admin user in local admin group on client is the same for scheduler

map from core to client/admin$ OK

create test directory in client/admin$ from CORE is OK

UAC is set to elevate without prompting for admin users

ipcheck from CORE to client  Failed with Hostname and IP

I cannot understand how it's possible to have ipcheck failed but ping and nslookup are ok both from client and core.

Anybody could help me to debug that.

Thank you for your help.

Agent Push - Errors 1087 and 1086 - Please assist in identifying

I have pushed the agent out to 10 workstations.  3 workstations are complete.   Now I have three that failed Result Code = Unable to contact the specified machine.  The machine may be off or unreachable.  Return Code = 1087.  I have the log file attached.

Then I have 4 workstations that failed with the Result Code = The agent setup succeeded and is now rebooting.  Return Code = 1086.

If someone can tell me where I need to start looking to resolve these and get the agent on them, I would appreciate very much.

Regards

Cathy

How do we remove an agent?

$

I've been thru the manual, and can only find 1 or 2 instances of "remove agent", and hundreds of instances of either word by itself.

We have one user who is being harrassed by LD.  Every day LD wants to install some update/patch...even after we apply everything there is to apply manually, using remote control.

We don't know specifically what it's trying to install.  We thought for the moment that we'd just remove the agent.  But we don't know how.  I had seen LANDesk listed under Add/Remove SW on my PC, but when I connected to his, it wasn't there.  We're assuming that my LANDesk listing was for the console, rather than for the agent.

Thanks in advance for the assistance,

Tom

Has anyone had an issue running LDdiscover.exe on any OS newer than 2003/XP?

I'm finding that it works fine on server 2003 (going away), but doesn't work on 2008, 2012, win7.  It briefly worked for me when I was talking with LD support, but they say it is not a supported product (?) and couldn't help much with it; now that I need it I'm getting an error trying to use it:  it logs in with the correct credentials but then I get the error "Error creating service (Access is denied. (5,0x5)".  The same commands and credentials work on a server 2003 machine.

Has anyone else run into this?

9.6 Security and Compliance scan - silencing

$

Our QA group is testing the 9.6 agent and they have been asking me about the daily scan that pops up.  Generally, we try to keep things as silent as possible.... don't want to generate any "hey... what's this?" calls.

I've looked through the Distribution and Patch agent settings and have not found if/where this can be silenced.  The only thing I see about silencing is for the legacy Mac agent to hide scan when a presentation is running.

Could someone point in the right direction to get this silenced or confirm that it can't be?

Thanks.

LANDesk agent - machines that are not on the domain

$

Newbie alert!

I am installing LDMS 9.5 with the bundled SQL Express database and data analytics. The company I work for had LANDesk previously and pushed out the agent using a GPO. However, they have made acquisitions since then, and now we have Mac's and PC's in the environment that are not in the domain.

Do I need to bind all of the machines to the domain in order to have them report to LANDesk? Binding to the domain will be time consuming (user profiles), so if I can, I'd like to bind the machines gradually over the coming weeks. If I do not need to bind them to the domain, what is the process for getting the agents on to the machines and making sure it reports correctly?

Thank you in advance.
