LDMS 9.6 - Agent configuration settings

I just upgraded to LDMS 9.6 and it seems like all my prior agent configurations are scattered all over the place.

Is there something I can read to get to understand these better?

Thanks.

Duplicate existing Agent configuration

Hello,

Does anyone know if there is anyway to make a copy of an existing Agent Configuration? This would be very useful to test different agent settings in a lab without recreating the configuration from scratch.

LANDesk Server moving to a new Data Center

Our LANDesk, server will be moving to a new Data Center in a few months.   The only concern will be the static IP address the server has now, will change to a new address.   Will that cause a problem for all the agents we have deployed already?  I know when we do a security scan or inventory scan, the agent shows the IP address of the server.   I assume this is going to cause a problem when the IP address changes?   What will need to be done once we move the server and change the IP address?  Will an updated agent need to be sent out?  I hope this is very simple question as I am just starting to work with LANDesk, so I don't know all that much about it yet.

Thank you for your time.

Mirror Drivers disable Windows Aero on Windows 7 64 bit

I discovered that if you install an agent using the Remote Control Mirror drivers on a Windows 7 64 bit pc it disabled the Windows Aero feature.  This was not the case on a 32 bit Windows 7 machine.  The machines I used were a Dell 755 (64bit) and a Dell D820 laptop (32bit).  Just wanted to pass this on should anyone else see it.  Once I changed the client and rebooted Aero started working again.  This was a version 9 client.

Agent Deployment error (0xC0000471)

When I'm deploying some agent, i'll the wscfg32.exe process will be terminated with statuscode 0xC0000471.

This also happens when i run it from ldlogon share without any installation options.

When it's run from scheduled task the return code is "successfull".

But there ain't get any files copied/installed !!

According to ntstatus.h in winsdk the errormsg  says :

STATUS_INVALID_CRUNTIME_PARAMETER #An invalid parameter was passed to a C runtime function.

This happens only at a view machines. Didn't find any shared issuses on that computers. (different software, OS: Win7 64 and XP32)

Since this sounds for me like an .net related problem. I tried to update all .net frameworks, removed all VisualC++ runtimes and installed that ones from ldlogon shrare.

Doesn't get any further. (also disabled virus scanner )

Does someone have same problem, hints or solutions ?

Thanks in advance!

How do we remove an agent?

I've been thru the manual, and can only find 1 or 2 instances of "remove agent", and hundreds of instances of either word by itself.

We have one user who is being harrassed by LD.  Every day LD wants to install some update/patch...even after we apply everything there is to apply manually, using remote control.

We don't know specifically what it's trying to install.  We thought for the moment that we'd just remove the agent.  But we don't know how.  I had seen LANDesk listed under Add/Remove SW on my PC, but when I connected to his, it wasn't there.  We're assuming that my LANDesk listing was for the console, rather than for the agent.

Thanks in advance for the assistance,

Tom

Remove Landesk before sysprep?

I'm deploying a number of VMs using VMware View automatic provisioning. I'd like to have the Landesk agent installed on those VMs.My understanding is that images should not have the Landesk agent installed. I have a couple of questions about that.

1. Is this right, or is there a way to have an image with Landesk pre-installed?

2. If it should be installed later, what's a good automatic way to do this? View does allow for sysprep customization, but the runonce that is provided is in the user mode, so I've got VMs that get created, then the user logs in and it sits there for 10-15 minutes while LD installs. I'm thinking of hardcoding it into the system level registry in runonce.

I'd like to use Landesk to install a fairly complicated software package on the image before I package it up.

3. Is this inadviseable?

4. Does simply running the uninstallwinagent.exe get rid of enough stuff that it's safe to run sysprep after running that? Or are there reg keys, etc, that I will need to remove as well?

Agent Configuration: Changing what Agent config PC uses

$

Wondering if someone could possibly help on what maybe a simple solution.

We have over the past 2 weeks JUST installed Landesk Management Suite 9.6 and getting to grips with it.  We created an Agent Configuration for all workstations within our business (400) and scheduled to push this out overnight and all was successful.

We then noticed that users in the IT department (30) were having their workstations powered down at 11pm every night, due to power management settings being enabled.  The decision was then taken to create a new Agent Configuration for just IT workstations.  This has been created and then attempted to push these to 2 users within IT to test, the process shows as successful but the console is showing the Agent Configuration Name as the previous Agent Configuration.

Therefore how are we able to change the agent configuration these IT Workstations use as they do not seem to be picking it up.

Thanks

what is "Schedule Update to Agent Settings", really?

RE:  LDMS 9.0SP3

So this is sort of a two-part question:

part 1)  lets say I use a single agent config across my deployment.  If I decide I want to add something like Power Management to the Agent Configuration I know how to do that.  My question is this:  do agents that are already in service check in and see that their agent configuration has changed and in this case they would download the appropriate Power Management settings?

-I'm pretty sure the answer to this question is NO, so I'd then like to ask "why not?"

part 2)  I see the option under AGENT CONFIGURATION - > SCHEDULE UPDATE TO AGENT SETTINGS.  What does this really do?  How is it really supposed to be used?

-I scheduled one of these in a two-agent config environment and simply assigned all of my clients to the task thinking that only the agents using the one config would update their settings: WRONG! It looked like all of my agents got overwritten, even the ones that were not using the agent config that I wanted updated.  I feel like that I have to be deliberate and manually update my agents when I decide I need to change something and this just seems wrong to me.  Shouldn't this just be an automatic process?

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

this one doesn't really have qualfied advice; why do you sometimes have to redeploy the agent vs just updating?

this one seems to have the most useful information, but it doesn't really explain what happened in the 2nd part of my scenario above.

LANDesk v9.6 Agent - Upgrade/Install

Is there a cheap and easy way to update the existing 9.5SP1/2 agents to the 9.6 agent from within the LANDesk Console?

I'm looking for a way that will have the current agents scan and update themselves as was described in :How to upgrade or patch LANDesk agents.

This worked for updating from 9.5SP1 to 9.5SP2, I can't seem to get it to work for 9.6 unless this is by design.

Bug?

After entering the wrong subnet mask when attempting to target a single computer for discovery via UDD; the scan gets stuck in an endless loop. Cancel Scan has no effect. Even after attempting to close window, the scan continues and window will not close.  Task Manager could not close task. Resorted to a reboot.

Internal Error - Return Code 1208

I have created an Advance Agent Default Windows Configuration for deployment of LanDesk 9.  We installed LanDesk on our D: drive on our core server.  I see the AdvanceAgent folder and the files created within the folder.

I tried to Push the Adv Agent to a Windows 7 machine and a Windows XP machine.  Both resulted in Failed: Status, An internal error occurred, Return Code 1208.  I've been searching for this error and haven't found anything to determine what this error is or a solution.  The Management Console for LanDesk9 in on our core server and hasn't been installed on our Tech's computers.  Our current version on our client machies is 8.80.0.249 and we are trying to upgrade to version 9.

Cannot find agent

Hello. I am currently running Landesk 8.7  Recently we pushed a bunch of Microsoft patches to about 1500 remote clients running XP with SP2.  The firewall has been disabled on all. More than half the patches failed reporting that they "Cannot find agent" and/or "Cannot find agent (different agent responded"

Can anyone help me interpret that error message?

Thanks!

Common Base Agent Not Loaded

$

Having a problem with the common base agent not loading onto some of our servers(Server 2003 and Server 2008). Does anyone have any idea why the agent would not be able to load from the deployment. We tried doing it through Unmanaged Device Deployment and through loading the agent directly on the server.

See attached image for details.

Thanks in Advance,

Matt

Has anyone had an issue running LDdiscover.exe on any OS newer than 2003/XP?

I'm finding that it works fine on server 2003 (going away), but doesn't work on 2008, 2012, win7.  It briefly worked for me when I was talking with LD support, but they say it is not a supported product (?) and couldn't help much with it; now that I need it I'm getting an error trying to use it:  it logs in with the correct credentials but then I get the error "Error creating service (Access is denied. (5,0x5)".  The same commands and credentials work on a server 2003 machine.

Has anyone else run into this?

How do I insert multiple computers to "All Devices"

Hi All,

I've a strange query.

There are multiple machines under different VLAN and IP Ranges. But, I've all the hostnames in a text file. I've added one machine under All devices (Right Click "All Devices -> insert new computer") .  Then created a scheduled task to push the agent and 'drag and drop' the machine to the scheduled task. Fine. The agent got installed and i'm able to get the inventory.

I'm wondering, is there any option to add all the hostnames in the text file to "All Devices"?
