New agent deployment on 9.6 failing to install antivirus for several endpoints

$

My problem's symptom is exactly the same as this:  deploying new agent with AV

However, my agents have no antivirus or leftover components of antivirus on them that I can find, McAfee or otherwise.  What else could be the cause?  For every 10 client installs this seems to happen once or twice.

I've tried reinstalling the agent, force installing the antivirus using vulscan, and even running the antivirus msi install command manually (which just immediately returns.)  I've checked installed software and packages and there's nothing installed. Previously some of these machines, just like most of ours, had Trend Micro SMB installed.  It was removed prior to beginning the LANDesk client install and I've confirmed it's completely gone.

The error in my installav.log file is simply the same as linked above:

ERROR: Installation failed. C:\Program Files (x86)\LANDesk\LDClient\antivirus\LDAV.exe /install (0x8DB301C0)

Last status: Failed: LANDesk Antivirus msi failed (0x8DB301C0)

Hi there

So i am setting up new 9.6 SP2 server to migrate my 9.5 environment into and there is this new  (And very welcomed) setting for an Agent Health. Under Enforcement area it has an option to - "Periodically scan for agent health issues using the following group". And than is seems it can "Automatically remediate any issues found after scan"

That us great and all but ... What are those groups? Where do i set them up? And what exactly are they for?

Thanks a ton!!!!

Deploying package on XP - Agent Error Message

Hi,

I am pushing a package to an XP machine and I keep getting this error message: The selected delivery method and or package(s) require features that are not provided by the agent installed on this target. This can be resolved by upgrading the agent to the latest version

Now I know that I have different legacy agents on the my XP machines but surely there must be a way to send a package to them.

I found this article on it: The selected delivery method and or package(s) require features that are not provided by the agent installed on this target. This can be resolved by upgrading the agent to the latest version

This is the solution provided: Change the downgrade options in the delivery method to use "Download functionality to level of agent" but I don't understand this means.

Can someone please help?

Thanks in advance

Landesk 9 AdvanceAgent keeps installing every few minutes

I have Landesk 9 Advance Agent deployed via GPO, then it installs proper LD9 agent on PCs which works fine - computers communicate with LD Core etc. However Windows event logs report reinstallation attempts every few minutes on all PCs with agent on them. Actions order is:

- Landesk Remote Control service stops

- Landesk AdvanceAgent removal completes successfully

- Landesk Remote Control service starts

- Landesk AdvanceAgent installation completes successfully

And so on, all day long on few hundred PCs, all Windows XP Pro machines with SP2/SP3 installed but few Windows 7 computers I tested this on were also affected. Event log screenshot attached below. Did anyone have similar problem and found the solution?

Install issues with AdvanceAgent GPO

I thought our GPO for the LANDesk 9 Agent was working fine but i'm I seem to be noticing an issue on some Windows 7 machines where the agent is not getting installed.

I recreated a new AdvanceAgent and confirmed the path to the .exe was correct.

I did gpupdate /force on my machine.

I get the following error in c:\windows\temp\AdvanceAgent.  This is from a previous attempt at installing the Agent. I dont see any new logs being created.

I checked under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products for an AdvanceAgent GUID to delete but couldnt find any.
Event Log is showing..

I have also attached a screenshot of my GPO.  Any ideas?

Agent issues- Remote Control Agent Status not loaded

Since we moved to SP 4 and then 5 im still having stupid issues with pushing out the agent to new machines, whether or not they are related im not sure but i havent had this much trouble with agent installs since using LD a year ago. It just seems lately its issue after issue with agent installs. Previously out of all our devices i have had not much trouble. I have had much trouble with the agent installs on new machines lately. They arent new models compared to the others which worked fine in the past. I had a cba error previously which has an annoying fix that i need to uninstall and then reinstall from the core server. That is one fix. This issue im talking about is that whne i have re-pushed the agent after doing this cba8.msi install from core server, the agent scheduled job says its green successful. When in fact it isnt. WHen i look at the properties of that device im not seeing- Remote Control Agent Status not loaded when it should be. Why is this happening? any help would be appreciated.

"GetCMSettings.exe has stopped working"

I have three new HP ZBook 15 laptops.   Agents were pushed.   when we launch the inventory scanner on the laptop, we are getting this error.   Close the message and the scan continues.

If we run the task from the console, the task completes with a result of "Not Specified" and correct Last Hardware Scan time of when the scan completed.

So it appears the task completes if launched from console.  And will complete after you close the error message regarding GetCMSettings.exe.

Thoughts???   This is a new issue for us, but also the first time we've deployed the new ZBooks.

Policy Invoker not starting after Agent Install from GuiRunOnce

$

We are deploying images to computers throughout our district.  The image has been syspreped and we have the Agent deployment configured to run during the GuiRunOnce section of the sysprep.inf file along with the install of Sophos AntiVirus and lastly a gpupdate /force /boot to force the AD policies to refresh and reboot the computer so that it is not left logged in as the local Administrator.  Below is the GuiRunOnce section of the sysprep.inf file (server names and passwords changed):

[GuiRunOnce]
Command0="c:\ldsleep.exe 30"
Command1="net use \\LDSERVER\ldlogon Password /u:DOMAIN\LANDesk"
Command2="cmd /q /c \\LDSERVER\ldlogon\wscfg32.exe /F /L /STATUS /NOREBOOT"
Command3="net use \\LDSERVER\ldlogon /d /y"
Command4="cmd /q /c del /q c:\ldsleep.exe"

Command5="cmd /q /c del /q c:\ldiscan.cfg"
Command6="net use \\AVSERVER\SophosUpdate Password /u:DOMAIN\LANDesk"
Command7="\\AVSERVER\SophosUpdate\CIDs\S000\SAVSCFXP\setup.exe -user DOMAIN\LANDesk -pwd Password -mng yes"
Command8="net use \\AVSERVER\SophosUpdate /d /y"
Command9="gpupdate /force /boot"

The imaging has been going fine - during the first boot, after the automated mini-setup completes, the system automatically logs in once and runs the various GuiRunOnce commands to install the agent, the antivirus, and refresh group policy and reboot.

We are able to deploy software through pushes and remote into these machines after imaging like normal, but the machines do not install any software deployed from LANDesk that has been configured using a Policy or as a Policy-Supported Push if the machine was not on at the time of the initial push.

Upon further investigation, it appears that the policy invoker service is not working correctly for the systems to be able to pull installs through policy.  We recieve this error in the Desktop Manager when we go to  try to refresh the policy "Policy synchronization has failed"

PolicyInvoker.png

If we re-install the agent again manually by navigating to the ldlogon share and running wscfg32.exe, when the install finishes, the policy invoker starts and the system begins receiving software deployment through policies as it should.

Here is the question:  Why does the policy invoker service not start when the agent is installed suring the GuiRunOnce leaving the system unable to receive software?  This is extremely detrimental to our re-imaging process as the systems need to install certain location and department specific software packages after they have been imaged.  We would like to have these deployments setup as policies so that when the system gets re-imaged, it begins installing any necessary software packages immediately following the imaging process and mini-setup while the system is waiting at the login prompt.

Which ports are good for detecting agent alive in system?

Hi all,

We plan to disable the network of PCs which don't install LANDesk agent. The first thing we need to make sure is how to detect alive LANdesk agents. We think the easy way is to detect ports which agent used to communicate with the core. Please advise which ports are suitable for my scenario.

Thanks.

MakeCAB Failed on Advanced Agent

$

I just upgraded a client from 9.5 to 9.6. I have run into an issue with creating new Advance Agents.

Selecting Advance Agent, the process has failed about 6 times. On each attempt, I rename the log file and run the process again. Comparing log files, I cannot find a consistent failure point. It will always fail when adding a particular file, but the files change from one log to the other. In some log files, the file that failed on a previous attempt was successful, only to fail on a different file. On the 7th try or so, I successfully created an advance agent  - not having changed anything on the core or in the agent itself. It just worked. I attempted to create another advance agent for a different config, it failed with the same issues. 3 tries later, it works. This appears to be a file contention or resource issue. What exactly do you think is happening? Is it because the files are in use at the exact time that I am creating an advance agent? Are auto updates occurring on existing agents in the field that might cause file contention issues with creating an advance agent? Is this to be expected during this auto agent update period?

What say you?

Any and all ideas are welcome.

Thank you.
