Here is a curve ball for me and one that I can't seem to sort out.
I've got a provisioning process that lays down a 32-bit Win7 image and then installs an agent. The agent install has a status window during provisioning so that i can see the agent being put into the OS. Additionally, I'm able to see the agent icon in the system tray after the fact. The problem is that after the provisioning process is complete and the machine reboots, the OS loads but the agent isn't running. I mean to say that I can't see that the machine is connected in the console view, I can't remote control it, and on the actual machine the agent icon isn't in the system tray. I have verified that the software is installed on the local disk, but the agent simply isn't running. I don't know why this is.
A few back ground pieces.
This past weekend we applied the Software Distribution MCP, SD-0428?. The problem has surfaced after the update.
We are provisioning a new type of computer this week; so it is possible that something else is hanging us up rather than the MCP.
As a result of the MCP application, we deleted our MSI packages for the Advance Agent installer and we are deploying the new versions via a GPO on our network...though I can't say that this is actually working.
We also pushed out an update for the clients via Patch Manager, which does appear to work.
Anyone have any thoughts on what is happening to these agents or what I should do about them?
