Keeping PC and Server Agents Healthy and Functioning

We use LDDA for SCCM but we have also deployed advanced agents to all of our PCs and Servers worldwide.

In our SCCM environment we struggle to keep agents healthy and we have to constantly battle with full or partial corruption of the agents, requiring a reinstall.   A real hassle and more time than we have to give to this non-value added work.

In our LANDesk environment we have installed the LANDesk advanced agents on our servers and we see all the services running but we don't get a scan until the system is rebooted.   Then they stop working for some reason (i.e. stop returing a scan) and we have to reinstall the agent and reboot the systems again.  Some of these are critical production servers and our sys admins are getting concerned with the level of care and feeding required to keep our servers sending scans.

Should we have to reboot the servers if we see the softmon and tmcsvc service running on the servers?  Is there any way to get around having to reboot the servers?

Are there any best practices on keeping our PC and server agents healthy and reporting without the constant do-overs?

We just started playing with UDD and that is very helpful in knowing whats is dropping off the radar screen and we may buy XDD.

Any insights would be much appreciated.
